The Sabbath Restored Part 5 Site 13

Narrative for Site 13 on the Sabbath Trail

by Pastor Merlin Knowles

In the beginning, man and woman were made in God's image and given mutual dominion and rulership over all the earth. They were the crown of God's creation, and all fish, birds, animals, and plant life were to be subject to them. In some respects this God-given order had been reversed so that animals were treated with greater respect and dignity than people. When Christ healed the man with the withered hand on the Sabbath, he restored the proper relationship of people to the rest of creation. He restored mankind's dignity, his role, and his dominion.

The Sabbath Restored - Part 5

When Jesus healed a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath, He restored the dignity of human beings. People, the crown of God's creation, are vastly superior to animals. What is appropriate to do in care for a dumb animal demonstrates how much greater care should be shown for those made in God's image. Saving life, doing good, and acts of compassion are part of what the Sabbath is all about. Matt. 12:9-15, Gen. 1:26-31
